I was where you are, and somedays still am, but overall I am better now than before I started the program. I'm on week 2, finished it a little ahead of myself, went to three, and then went back to week 2. In my entire life until recently I never experienced anything even remotely close to a panic attack. I didn't know what it was. It terrified me. The first one was the worst, with one or two since, almost as bad. They are becoming fewer which is good. I am someone who has always been confident in my life as long as I was in control. Learning the hard way I can't control everything and there comes a time when you have to let it go. I've had setbacks but in spite of that without a doubt I am in a better place already than before starting the program. Sometimes it's three steps forward one back,& remember to count the progress made. Most of my attacks have been in the car, but since I am also claustrophobic not getting out gets to me while being in the car does as well. A bit of a catch 22 in that.

I find journaling helps. I can't sleep because of this overwhelming anxiety. How are you sleeping?

Hello all,

Just start at the beginning and take it slow. This program will help you to understand why you feel the way you feel, it will give you ways to retrain your thoughts, and focus. Be patient with yourself and give it time. It is not a "quick fix" , it will take time. but you are worth it!
I have been working the program for 8 weeks now. I can not believe the changes that have taken place in me. I am more confident, relaxed, and happier than I've ever been! Like you, I also was skeptical, and afraid( what if it does not work), etc.; the program does work, but you have to do your part. You have to listen to the CD's, the relaxation CD, and do the homework assignments in the books that are for each session.
I will be praying for all of you. Good luck on your journey to inner peace and healing.

i bought this program almost 3 years ago. i worked it when i first got it and it helped me tremendously. i have to say i didnt work it like lucinda says, but i did listen to all the cd's, tape and read some of the book and got several tools that helped me. Well i am back, i need them again, and knowing that i have them to refer back to is a help in itself. just start at the beginning, and listen to the cd's and tapes, and work it as Lucinda says, thats what i am going to do this time around, because i think she is right. its going to give me the best results!! and thats what we're looking for, right? God Bless and stay positive.

All that I can really say to all of you is:

Be strong, confident, resilent, and persevere. This is not the end of the road, in fact if anything this is the beginning of a whole new stage in your life. You should be excited and hopeful.

You will get through this. The fact that you are hurting so much shows how amazing each and every one of you are. You are alive, you feel pain, you feel hurt, you feel guilt, you feel HUMAN! This is a lot more than can be said for a lot of people in this day and age. You should look in the mirror everyday and be happy to be alive and know that you are a caring, loving, loved, and important person.

Everyone of us fills some purpose in life, you just have to find it. Whether this purpose is something divine, subconscious, or something beyond anything we can begin to comprehend.... the one thing that we can look on is the past and we see that given the worst hands in life, caring and loving people always find a way to persevere. You are merely in a stage of your life that is going to test your guts and test your "soul". Don't ever lose sight of who you are and what you want out of life.

This program is just one stepping stone. Everyday psychologists, psychiatrists, counselors, and others work hard to find ways to help those of us hurting. There are tons of resources out there and I truly believe that in the next fifty years, anxiety and depression will be a distant memory! We have come an extremely long way in the past twenty-years and we should all be thankful for having been born during this era.

I've made it through this, as have millions of others, and you are just one more success story in the making... Be STRONG!

Don't ever give up and don't ever forget that you are NOT ALONE!

- Beat

Hey BeatAnxiety,
What an inspiring post! Love your analogy of the stepping stone. I'm getting ready to go back to school after working in a field I initially LOVED but now am more than ready to move on. I have had more idiotic problems in the past 9 weeks than in the entire 13 years I've taught.

Like many of you, I am a perfectionist and feel like my life is chaotic if I don't have full control. Consequently, while I'm excited to make a change in career, I'm also TERRIFIED! I'm scared I won't be able to maintain a satisfactory standard of work, I'm nervous about not having a steady income (I've decided to bartend because it's the only job I know I can make good money at working a couple nights a week. It will also feel good to blow off steam at drunk dorks *evil cackle*), and I'm especially anxious that after completing the program (Art History/Gallary Mgt.) I won't be employable and wind up stressed out and teaching again. (I live in a relatively small area that has only one Art Center in town, hence the limited job availability.)

OK, enough whining, when I read that this program is a stepping stone, it reminded me that my psychologist always says that next year will be an "adventure," and I should feel very blessed to even have this opportunity. You are absolutely right, this program is a stepping stone to the rest of my life, and despite my fears, if I hadn't found it I doubt I would have the physical capacity or mental clarity to begin the next chapter of my life.
Thanks Again,
Fischee
