I was wondering if anyone else has had this. I'm on week 15, and feel pretty good about it- decided to go through it again to catch more of it and I really have been feeling pretty well. So today after doing numurous morning chores, clothes , dishes, breakfast, etc... I sit down and take a break with my kids. I'm holding my 21 month old and we're just calmly watching cartoons and then it's almost as if my heart skips a beat or something and when it comes back it's like "KA-BOOM!", and then I spiralled into a medium panic attack. Took me a while to get a grip but I'm here and I'm okay. I didn't die or anything, you know all those scary thoughts. Why does this happen to me? My first panic attack which brought me here only started in last October, and before that, I've never had this heart thing that I can recall. Since this has all started though, I can have these Boom things happen every few days or so, most are small and they don't bother me, but when I get huge ones, like earthquakes- it really scares me. The thing is I've been hooked up to e.k.g. twice in the last 6 months, in my earlier panic days and they have both come out fine. So if there's nothing there, am I doing this to myself somehow? I try to think about what I was thinking incase a thought brought in on, but I can't put my finger on anything. I know why I have a panic attack after it, because my first big panic attack was when I had an allergic reaction back in October and anything that makes me feel like I did back then brings me right back to panic now. Well, it tries to, the only time I panic now is when these big booms happen. I'm so sick of it and want to get down to the bottom of it, I'm going to try to see a doctor and get the facts on Monday. But any insight from all you good folk is welcomed since I'll have to sit through the whole week end. Oh, and I don't drink caffine, no sugar, pretty well balanced diet and get some exercise too! Thanks to all for listening- Therese

Hi, Staying Positive:
I have these "ka-booms". I have been tested out numerous times . 3 years ago they did an angio-gram. I went in for a check in February. Heart tests come out fine. They don't ever tell me what that is. I wonder if they know. "They" being the doctors and technitions. Sometimes after the "ka-Boom" everything will seem a little dark for a second and I'll feel somewhat dizzy and weird. Just briefly. Then slowly the heart (if it is that) will settle down. I can't help you though because I don't know. Like I said , they never tell me. And since they never have, I quit going in. I just accept it now. But that might not be the thing to do. However, I'm older now, so I guess it doesn't matter that much. If I were younger I might be more concerned. If you ever find out what does that, I would be interested in hearing. Anyway, thanks for sharing about that. At least I know now that others have that. MaryJane |

Well perhaps you could WELCOME the KA BOOM in.
You know what it is and you know it won't hurt you. ACCEPT it and try not to fear it, UNDER react as Lucinda would say. Yes it is scary and yes it is uncomfortable, but YOU ARE OKAY AND YOU WILL BE OKAY!!!! The doctors have cleared you. Use your self talk. Tell yourself that you are okay, you are safe, you are healthy, it is just anxiety knocking on your door. If you stop reacting with your mind your body will stop reacting too!! I wish you the very best!!! Coco |

Thanks for the replies. I still want to discuss it with a doctor. My hubby told me last night that he thinks he has the same thing once in a while and we talked a little about it and we thought it's stress in our life. He said he's never had it until his late 20's and I've never had them before 7 months ago, he's 35 and I'm 32. I will post back doctor's comments and the whole visit I guess, and Coco 2. thanks for positive talk. I need that. I admit I somewhat slacked in the journalling and whole negative/positive reinforcement area. We are always in such a hurry to get there and have it, are't we? Time to slow down in the brain............That's hard for me to do. Anyway, any and all posts welcome still on this subject.

stay positive,
I have had those sometimes they are so back causes me to catch my breath and you think what was that one time my heart got to acting up so bad and I was home alone and it sort of shook me this is not my fear isn't it funny how we all are so different what bothers you does't bother me. I use to be afriad of everything I have had ocd but the big one for me was agrophobia,my first attack was in smokey mountains I will never forget it I was in the back seat of the car with my husband we were with friends and when it hit I said I feel strange everyone looked at me and did't say anything so I said no more we were 10 miles probably into the mountains no houses we were going thru till north carolina I think this was in 1977,such a long time my life changed for ever that day first and last vacaton I ever had 6 years later started medication and lost all the ocd, fear of diseases but never completely got over the agrophobia, never really pushed myself.my husband gets mad at me today because I won't push myself.I bought the program for him 4 years ago he has ocd,but got worse myself and am trying to go thru it.I'm bad to put things off and I will start and listen to the tapes on my way to work, then not do the work but not keep it up .finding I can't stay on track you know some times you wonder am I afraid of change we mask our feelings till I have a hard time knowng what I feel it takes a lot of hard work but it would be worth every bit of it. I said all this to say I have started taking fish oil capsules an magnesium about 400 mg of the magnesium,2 fish oil capsules.a dr told a girl I worked with she started having her heart flopping and she got real scared the dr recomed those, very suprising coming from an md I have read alot about natural vitamins and herbs.I have taken this for 2 or 3 yrs.I don't have the fluttering and flopping I once had.my co worker said hers did't bother her no more she thought it was her nervers.mine was't and yours may or manot be a lot of peoples hearts do that they say it is not dangerous.I tried to not think much about it if I was tired or stressed it was worse might be something you would want to look into they wouldn't hurt you for sure.there was a thread about magnesium helping panic attacks.I can't remember which one it was. |

I've had similar episodes for years. About ten years ago I saw a cardiologist who put me on a hear monitor two different times to see what exactly was happening. The were only PVC's, Pre-Ventricular Contractions. Basically harmless but feels kind of like what you're describing. It feels like your heart skips a beat or pauses for a second, then beats hard to catch up for the pause. I get them more offten when I'm under a lot stress and my anxiety is bad. Now that I know they're not serious I don't let them bother me much.
My husband tells me he gets them too! We're in our early 30's too. Hopefully it's the same thing and you can put your mind at ease. Good Luck! |

I have those too. Actually my 18 yr old daughter does too. I have had my heart tested, etc... and the Dr. told me that I have an irregular heartbeat. Nothing serious and it can't hurt you. He did say to stay away from stress and caffeine. That was way before I had panic.
I always tell myself that it's no big deal- and go on. The less you worry about it the less you have them. :-) "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." Jn.14:27 |

I've also had this problem for many years. I don't consider it a problem anymore after an ekg 30 some years ago confirmed everything was fine [when I had my first panic attack]. Now I just ignore it!...One less symptom for me to worry about
It is good to hear that others have it too! Try not to worry about it especially if you have seen a doctor....just think if you are still feeling it you are definitly ALIVE! Hugs Barbara |
