The thing that has helped me the most to reduce the amount of time I spend worrying is to simply give myself permission to worry, with no judgement that's it's either good or bad. I have found that if I give myself the choice (to worry or not to worry), I usually don't! Today something happened at work that I felt myself start to worry about (even though I know intellectually that worry is futile). I just said to myself, "If you want to worry about this, go ahead, it's ok, but let's also figure out what can be done tomorrow to improve the situation".
I think this method has worked for me because (1) as the program suggests, I'm doing some problem-solving that helps me feel more empowered and (2) going back to tape 2 on panic attacks, I'm giving myself permission to worry, permission to feel the emotion. I have found that the more I fight the urge to worry about something, the more I worry! I'd be interested to hear from others through this forum about what has helped them worry less. This program has really been a God-send to me and I wish everyone out there luck! |

You are right, Kendra. What we resist persists - even worry. It's also helpful to go into the feelings in your body and stay out of your thinking mind as best you can. When thought tries to drag you back just gently return your attention to the sensations in your body. Don't allow the thinking mind to tell you about what is going on inside of you. It doesn't know. When you stay with the feelings they dissolve. Your mind is clear to come up with great solutions if necessary and if a solution isn't necessary, then you will see you can let go of it without the stress of worry.
Great job. It pays to work the exercises in the program. Blessings. Bon |
